Garmin Pro Hank Cherry Is a Back-to-back Bassmaster Classic Champ
He’s done it again, folks. Coming off of his 2020 triumph at the 50th annual Bassmaster Classic, Garmin pro angler Hank Cherry turned around and claimed the 51st annual Bassmaster Classic champion title for himself as well.
Hosted at Lake Ray Roberts in Texas June 11-13, Cherry racked up a three-day weight total of 50 pounds, 15 ounces — making him one of only four anglers to ever win the Classic in consecutive years. And naturally, he did it with Garmin products on board. Cherry’s boat was exclusively equipped with the Panoptix LiveScope™ live-scanning sonar, a Garmin ECHOMAP™ Ultra chartplotter and the Garmin Force™ trolling motor.
He says the tech played a large role in his win.
“Having confidence in your equipment is a huge part of tournament fishing, and I fish so confidently with my Garmin units,” Cherry says. “I believe in my Garmin electronics, and I trust the information they provide. I might get confused, but they never are. And I said it last year, but I’ll say it again — if you do not have LiveScope, you are definitely missing out. It continues to be a huge key to my success.”
Cherry isn’t the only angler to sing the praises of LiveScope. The first-ever live-scanning sonar technology for recreational fishing, LiveScope gives an angler a live view of structure and fish swimming nearby — you can even see how fish respond to your lure and distinguish between different types of fish, allowing you to make game-time decisions about what’s going to work best to increase that weight total.
Together, Garmin and Navionics® sponsored 14 of the anglers fishing in this year’s Bassmaster Classic. Garmin pro Chris Jones took home third place with a total weight of 49 pounds, 1 ounce, and Brock Mosley won fifth with 42 pounds even.
A huge congratulations to Cherry and the rest of the team on their hard-earned victories. To fish like the pros, view the Garmin lineup of fishing and marine products here.
