Introducing the Garmin Approach S20: the golfing partner that simplifies your game

UK, January 26th, 2016 – Garmin International Inc., a unit of Garmin Ltd. (NASDAQ: GRMN), today announced the Approach S20 GPS golf watch. Stylish, sleek and lightweight, this versatile watch with a new graphic user interface provides comprehensive golfing features and AutoShot game tracking for more than 40,000 pre-loaded courses around the world. The S20 also includes daily activity tracking1 and connected features like smart notifications2 and automatic course updates. The new AutoShot feature records the location and distance of every shot automatically during each round and provides a useful game analysis after the round on the recently updated Garmin Connect mobile app. The S20 records information like yardages to the green, hazards and more, and is compatible with the new TruSwing golf club sensor to provide in-depth swing metrics.

“With the S20, we’re excited to bring even more ease-of-use to golf GPS watches,” said Martin Resch, Senior Product Manager Outdoor & Golf, Garmin EMEA. “Light and stylish in design with an improved graphic user interface, the Approach S20 featuring AutoShot and activity tracking makes all the difference to a good game.”

The Approach S20 introduces the new AutoShot feature that automatically records the distance of each shot during the approach so users can conveniently monitor their club distances on the course without slowing down their game. AutoShot round analyser also automatically records the location of every shot during the game and uploads it to the user’s Garmin Connect account. This way golfers can visualise and relive each round played on a vivid course view map. With AutoShot S20 users can gather more useful data like the average distance for each club, longest drive per round and overall. For courses that users regularly play on, they can even see all of their shots overlaid onto one map, enabling them to view their playing habits, so they know what to work on for the next round.

Approach S20 and TruSwing

Approach S20 can also be paired with the new TruSwing sensor, providing the user with in-depth swing metrics right from the wrist to improve their swing consistency and play.

Through CourseView auto updater on the Garmin Connect mobile app, Approach S20 users can have updates to the courses they play on the most. These updates are sent to their watch automatically, making sure they always have the latest course data available. The Approach S20 uses high-sensitivity GPS and comes preloaded with data for more than 40,000 international courses with no additional fees or subscriptions. It provides precise distances to the front, back and middle of the green in large, easy-to-read numbers and shows the green layout from the actual angle of attack on a clear, sunlight readable display. Additionally, the Approach S20 measures distances to course targets like sand traps, water hazards and more, as well as layups and doglegs. Golfers can also use the Green View feature to manually position the pin to that day’s location in order to get the most accurate measurements to the flagstick.

Stylish and comfortable with a full-hinged watchband, the Approach S20 is suitable for everyday wear. In addition to the golf features, the S20 boasts daily activity tracking1 which monitors and records daily steps, calories burned, distance and sleep, with move alerts to keep users active throughout the day. The S20 also receives smart notifications from compatible smartphones2, so users can stay connected with discreet notifications for call, texts, emails and more right on their watch.

Stat Tracking

In addition to the digital scorecard that can be used in each round, the Approach S20 can also track individual stats like fairways hit, greens in regulation and putts per round. With a compatible smartphone, data will automatically be uploaded and stored in the Garmin Connect mobile app, so golfers can track their progress over time and share with friends. Within Garmin Connect, S20 users can access all their stats, like average score, total putts and more. The Approach S20 gets you more golf with up to 15 hours of battery life in GPS mode and up to 8 weeks in watch mode with activity tracking. It boasts a 5 ATM water rating, so it can easily withstand the elements, whether golfers get caught in a sudden rainstorm or are sweating on a hot day.

Approach S20 Availability

The Approach S20 will be available in February 2016 in black, white, slate grey and midnight teal. The S20 will have a suggested retail price of £179.99 and will be exclusive to American Golf for 4 weeks from product availability.
