Garmin® Partners with Sunsail

Garmin the global leader in satellite navigation*, is pleased to announce a partnership with Sunsail.  The sailing holiday company has chosen Garmin marine equipment including the new GHPTM 12 sailboat autopilot system for use on its new flagship racing fleet.

Forty two Beneteau First 40s are being fitted out – the first of which is debuting at the PSP Southampton Boat Show this week. Sunsail has chosen to go with a full suite of electronic navigation, instrumentation and communications from Garmin’s latest range. Garmin is supplying Sunsail with a 7-inch GPSMAP® 750 Chartplotter, GMITM 10 instrumentation, VHF 200i radio, the GWSTM 10 wind sensor, and AIS 600. The re-fit has come about due to Sunsail replacing its entire Port Solent based fleet. The boats will be arriving early in 2011 in time for the spring season.

“We are delighted to be working with Sunsail. Our range of marine equipment is second-to-none and the new Sailboat Autopilot system will prove extremely useful for longer passages, freeing the helmsman for other tasks or even a rest.” said Garmin’s UK’s Marine Sales Manager, Dick Stanger.

Sunsail’s Head of Operations, Ant Steward added, “We chose Garmin as our supplier for the UK fleet due to the reliability of its products and the fact that they are so easy to use. With over 25,000 people sailing on these yachts each year though our UK corporate racing, sailing schools, flotilla and charter, it is essential that the electronics are durable and intuitive to use. Garmin offered both the products and the service support to really compliment our new yachts.”

The new GHP 12 sailboat autopilot system which will be added to the yachts early next year was also launched at the PSP Southampton Boat Show. It brings sophisticated control capabilities to 20 to 70 foot sailboats equipped with wheel steering systems. The GHP 12 features a built-in gyro that maintains precise turn response and control stability as well as an integrated rudder feedback to ensure ease of installation and exceptional reliability. And the GHP 12 offers minimal power consumption to conserve onboard power systems.

The Wind Hold, Auto-Tacking/Gybing functions as well as preset upwind courses – that can be tailored specifically to your vessel allowing it to sail and tack at predefined intervals – are all valuable features. This is all controlled not only at the push of a button from the GHCTM 10 control unit but also from the compatible remote, offered as a handy accessory to the GHP 12 Sailpilot.
