Garmin® nüvi® gets personal at a low price, bringing nüRoute™ technology to entry-level devices

Garmin, the global leader in satellite navigation*, today announces the next generation of economically-priced sat navs, bringing top-end navigation features to the new nüvi 2200 and 2300 sat nav series. The new models come with applications such as Park Position Recall, Automatic Speech Recognition (ASR), 3D terrain and Garmin’s exclusive PhotoReal™ junction view with lane guidance normally found in more premium devices.

“The introduction of the new 2200 and 2300 series proves there’s a Garmin for every lifestyle and every budget”, says Clive Taylor, Garmin’s Director of Product. “Our intention is to offer our customers more than just A to B navigation right across our range, even in our more economically-priced products.”

Adding: “The new Garmins include many features that help to extend their use outside of the car, such as navigating on foot, travelling on public transport with Garmin’s cityXplorerTM maps, exploring new places with our AA tourist guides for restaurants, hotels and even campsites or just simply reporting a wrong speed limit using our built-in community sharing application.”

PhotoReal Junction view and lane assist

The new nüvi 2300 series features a large 4.3-inch widescreen display with Garmin’s exclusive PhotoReal™ junction view and Lane Assist, multi route preview, which gives you the option to choose journeys based on time, distance and fuel costs and MyTrendsTM, which tailors your navigation by learning about your driving habits and remembering regular journeys that have been made.

The dual-orientation screen of the nüvi 2360LT is ideal when driving or walking, as it lets users see their preloaded maps and intuitive menus in landscape or portrait modes; showing more of the route ahead or a wider view of their immediate surroundings. Once out of your vehicle, the dual orientation comes in handy again with the portrait mode fitting comfortably in the hand for pedestrian navigation. This has been further enhanced with a 3-axis compass to ensure you are always facing in the right direction matching the direction you are looking with the detailed map on your sat nav. Couple this with the millions of points of interest (POIs) already loaded inside and users can explore their surroundings like a local.

The road ahead also comes to life with nüvi 2360LT through 3D terrain and shaded topography that provides unrivalled context and situational awareness. Many of the new nüvi models even feature free lifetime traffic alerts, denoted by the “LT” in the product name and users can stay safe while making calls on the move with hands-free Bluetooth® wireless technology and a compatible mobile phone.

Another safety feature of the nüvi 2360 is ASR technology, which allows users to call it a name or a special word and then activate the sat nav with this “wake-up” command before going through the menus by just using their voice. This means drivers can keep both hands on the steering wheel while searching for destinations or changing settings.

The new economically-priced, pocket-sized nüvi 2200 series has a simple 3.5-inch touchscreen interface with easy-to-use menus and applications to help plan your day.  All models in the range come with lane assist as standard, helping to guide you safely to the correct lane on major roads and junctions. They also feature Text to Speech, which reads out road and junction names, Route Planning, helping to plan your day, Park Position Recall in case you forget where you park your car and include Garmin’s ecoRoute™ fuel-efficient navigation to help conserve fuel and money along the way (www.garmin.com/ecoroute). This is on top of all of the other standard features such as the unique CyclopsTM preloaded speed camera database and millions of POIs covering hotels, restaurants, places to visit and more

For those everyday trips, nüvi 2200 models also automatically remember your frequent favourite destinations and use myTrends™ technology to predict your destination and display travel time and the best journey without you needing to activate a route. If you are in an unfamiliar city, the nüvi 2200 series enhanced pedestrian mode can also provide public transit options through optional cityXplorer content, available for many major cities across the world. cityXplorer helps you navigate by foot or on public transport such as buses, metro, tube and suburban rail systems.

Garmin sat nav owners also benefit from belonging to a very special community, where they can share data to help improve local information, such as speed limits, road changes, speed camera locations etc. and even receive money-saving deals such as reduced-priced AA membership and discounts of up to 60%** on Hotels and Short Breaks worldwide.
