Garmin® widens its horizons, with new 7-inch standalone touchscreen chartplotters

Garmin the global leader in satellite navigation is pleased to announce the GPSMAP® 750 and 750S – new touchscreen controlled standalone marine chartplotters with radar capability and built-in sonar (750S) at an affordable price.

Nigel Craine, Marine product Manager for Garmin said: “Our touchscreen technology is recognised throughout the industry for its performance and ease of use. We’re excited to further expand our product line with these new panoramic displays.

“In a class of their own, these chartplotters offer a whole new perspective on fingertip navigation and bridge the gap between the entry-level boater and the luxury yacht customers.”

The GPSMAP 750 comes preloaded with detailed offshore maps for the UK & Ireland, including Northern France and the Belgian coast. For sonar capability, Garmin also offers the GPSMAP 750s, which features a built-in 1kW capable sonar transceiver that can clearly define fish targets and terrain features up to 600m to keep you aware of what’s happening below the waterline.

Garmin’s new chartplotters in the GPSMAP 750 series feature a standard radar port that lets you connect with any Garmin GMR™ series marine radar for target scanning on your chartplotter screen.  Whether you’re adding radar now or in the future, you’ll enjoy the convenience of “plug-and-play” installation, as well as the power, range and high-definition targeting of Garmin’s proven radar scanners.

These units are the first non-network radar-capable units offered in Garmin’s marine product range and offer the perfect solution for the cost-conscious mariner who wants to take advantage of radar capabilities, without the network price.  In addition, these new units offer full NMEA 2000 connectivity and make it easy to monitor engine, fuel, autopilot and other onboard sensor data via the chartplotter.

As with other Garmin touchscreen marine products, these plotters feature a sleek and rugged “flat-screen” design, a 7-inch super-bright screen and are waterproof up to IPX7 standard. The GPSMAP 750(s) offers unprecedented extremes of brightness for daytime readability, with super low-level dimming as low as 0.5 Nit for optimum night vision.

With a built-in high-sensitivity GPS receiver, these new chartplotters are the perfect navigation solution for a single station vessel.  They have a small footprint to fit onboard your vessel where other larger units cannot as the touchscreen format eliminates the need for dashboard space normally used by the keys.

For superior situational awareness, mariners can also load the new GPSMAP 750 plotters with an optional BlueChart® g2 Vision® SD card to navigate with a clear moving-map representation of the boat’s position.  With BlueChart g2 Vision, mariners can also take advantage of the Auto Guidance feature which suggests the best routes to follow.  If your vessel is fitted with a Garmin pilot then you can then instigate the pilot control to follow an Auto Guidance route direct from the plotter screen.

In addition, g2 Vision features true 3D Mariners Eye view above water or a 3D Fish Eye underwater perspective.  For help in navigating tricky harbours and channels – g2 Vision cards offer a growing database of aerial reference photos.

The GPSMAP 750 has a recommended retail price of £1199.99 and the GPSMAP 750s has an RRP of £1299.99.  These touchscreen chartplotters are expected to be available in April, 2010.  For further information, visit www.garmin.co.uk.
