Clipper Race Blog – race 15 finished
Just 250 nautical miles until the finish in London!
The penultimate race in the Clipper Round the World Race saw a nail biting finish, as several boats were fighting for the podium positions. As the boats crossed the line into Den Helder, Netherlands, it was Henri Lloyd, Old Pulteney and Switzerland who managed the top three places, with Team Garmin coming in seventh overall. This puts Team Garmin in 10th place overall, with just the 250 nautical mile sprint from Holland to London left to go in this amazing round the world race.
The fleet will set sail from Den Helder on Thursday 10th July, arriving to a massive welcome and homecoming in London on 12th July.
Writing just before the end of the last race in Den Helder, Team Garmin’s skipper Jan Ridd recalled the crew’s exhaustion and the difficulties of sailing in crowded waters. He said, “Although only a short race it has been fairly stressful, because of the close racing as well as the navigational challenges of offshore oil and gas platforms. Busy shipping and strong tidal streams, we are all feeling fairly exhausted and looking forward to some relaxation in Den Helder.”
Here at Garmin we’re all wishing them the very best for the final sprint home to London!
