Contessa look to Garmin® to boost green credentials on 32ft ‘Calypso’
The global leader in satelite navigation, Garmin* is proud to strengthen its eco friendly stance by supplying kit to Jeremy Rogers for his new greener version of the iconic Contessa 32, Calypso. The team at the Jeremy Rogers yard have been working in collaboration with The Green Blue, the joint environment programme of the BMF and the RYA, to produce a bespoke yacht which will showcase some truly innovative, and highly accessible, products and technology, without compromising on quality or performance.
Calypso has many different green features including a real wood alternative to teak, a foul release alternative to antifoul and a hybrid diesel/electric engine incorporating solar panels and wind turbines.
"When we started researching electronics, we were looking for gear which wouldn't suck too much power out of our battery system and a company with the environmental standard ISO 140001 – Garmin ticked both boxes and we're really pleased to be working with them" explained Kit Rogers, Jeremy's son and co-owner of Calypso.
Garmin products onboard Calypso include:
- GPSMAP® 750 – recently entered for the BMEA product of the year award, putting all the information you need right at your fingertips with a 7 inch display, the GPSMAP 750 offers “plug-and-play installation and a high-sensitivity GPS receiver for superior satellite tracking and quicker acquisition times.
