Garmin® Announces 2011 Snowclub Champions

Garmin® celebrates its second winter season and crowns the fastest, highest and furthest travelled

Garmin® the global leader in satellite navigation celebrates its second successful winter season in snowsports and announces the skiers and snowboarders that travelled the fastest, highest and furthest travelled in 2011.

This year test centres were equipped with Garmin’s GPS navigators the OregonTM 450, with new Mountain Dynamics piste mapping, and the Forerunner® 310XT.  The 10/11 winter season saw more than 6,000 snowsports enthusiasts pour through the doors of the Garmin Test Centres and seize the opportunity to trial the OregonTM 450 GPS devices, as sported by Garmin Ambassadors and Ski Sunday presenters, Graham Bell and Ed Leigh.Oregon450_HR_028 2

New for this season, the OregonTM 450 ski editions were equipped with Mountain Dynamics SnowRanger ski resort maps for Europe. Trialists were able to log their speed, height and distances travelled as well as receive turn-by-turn directions telling them which lifts and slopes will take them to their destination.  At the end of the day trialists uploaded their daily tracklogs to Garmin Snow Club for automatic entry into the season’s league table and a chance to win a week’s winter holiday and Garmin devices. After 5 months, and well over 42,000 tracked miles, Garmin can reveal the Test Centre Champions for Winter 10/11:

How Fast? – Alex Bennett, 110.5kph – Pleisure Holidays, Courchevel

*A week’s winter holiday for two at Pleisure, plus a Oregon 450 device*

How High? – Simon Endersby, 12,153m (vertical descent) – Dragon Lodge, Tignes, *A Forerunner 310XT and Oregon 450 device*

How Far? – Ben Jackson, 89.66km – Rude Chalets,   Morzine, *A Oregon 450 device*

Charlotte Bishop, PR and marketing for Garmin said "Even though the snow season was a little short this year, we are really pleased with the number of people still willing to risk life and limb to clock up some awesome speeds.  A big thank you to all involved and Ed Leigh and Graham Bell for showing us how it’s really done"
