Garmin gets Ellie on the trail to get more women running

Ellie

Garmin, the global leader in satellite navigation, has enlisted the help TV personality and presenter, Ellie Harrison to help get more women into running and fitness.

The company has set her a series of challenges culminating in her very first half marathon at Brighton in February 2013.

Ellie explains:  “I’m like any other working mum, when I’m filming the kids are looked after, but outside that I’m making sure they are fed, bathed and occupied.  This leaves me with very little time to myself and it’s always easier to find an excuse not to get out exercising and keeping fit.

To show how everyone can fit running and exercise in their life, Ellie and Garmin are recruiting three training partners to accompany her on this exciting adventure.  Garmin will give full technical support, including the latest technology and training plans, and develop a program to show that you can get fit, even with a hectic schedule and busy life.

Ellie added, “I’ve challenged myself to get fit and, thanks to Garmin, I’ll be able to make the most of the little time I have.  It’s going to be tough, which is why having some partners to train with will help, as we can encourage each other and track our progress.  Thanks to the technology they can be anywhere in the UK as we’ll be developing ‘virtual’ training programs online, although sadly the running bit is as real as it gets!”

To help Ellie and her training partners, she’ll be using the brand new Forerunner 10 (SRP £99.99).  This lightweight and stylish watch uses the very latest GPS technology to show distance, calories, speed, pace and a host of other stats that can all be recorded on Garmin Connect.  Garmin Connect is the free training website that allows individuals to record and share their runs, meaning Ellie will be able to share her progress with her training partners and anyone else who wants to take up some of her challenges.
