Get fit in the City (and beyond) with the Garmin #4miler

London free-press newspaper City A.M. has marked the launch of our Garmin #4miler workplace running challenge with a call for all City workers to run the famous square mile.

Charting the fitness campaign of a group of eight financiers from Investec Bank, the newspaper, together with specialist running retailer Sweatshop and Garmin are championing a call to workers across the country to reclaim their lunch hours and get their work-life balance back on track.

Inspired by the efforts of Investec and other early challenge contenders, work-weary employees across the UK are being encouraged to break free from their desks, plan a 4-mile loop around their office and measure how far and how fast they run with a Garmin Forerunner. Using these GPS sportswatches they can track their progress and keep an accurate record of their workday workouts.

By then uploading their team training efforts to online training community, Garmin Connect, workplaces can see how they’re improving, challenge colleagues or even local competitors over the same distance and find out who’s the real boss.

Staff at Garmin are also going loopy for the #4miler, with Andy “Silver Bullet” Silver currently sitting at the top of our leaderboard.

Check out the Garmin #4miler website for ideas on how to inspire lazy, stressed, tired or too-busy colleagues to make a commitment to improve their health and boost productivity at the same time.
