Middlesbrough kit is Top Gear!
Top Gear presenters Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond and James May sported the Middlesbrough FC colours – proudly emblazoned with the Garmin logo – in a half-time pitch invasion last Saturday.
The trio were in town promoting the Top Gear exhibition at the Middlesbrough Institute of Modern Art when they gatecrashed the Boro v Notts Forest fixture at the Riverside Stadium to announce an extra 3,500 free tickets for Middlesbrough fans.
Clarkson and pals were greeted with a mix of cheers and jibes as they launched into their trademark banter in front of 22,700 supporters from both teams.
Clarkson said: “I will treasure that memory for the rest of my time. It was one of the best experiences I have ever had. It was every bit as good as piloting an F-15 fighter jet, driving a Ferrari flat out or racing trucks to the centre of the Arctic.”
Ever true to the show’s sense of mischief they first walked onto the pitch wearing local rival Newcastle United shirts before changing into their Garmin-backed strip.
Hammond added: “The Boro fans showed a great sense of humour in going along with our little joke. What a great place!”
The stunt was filmed for the Top Gear Christmas Special, to be screened on 20 December.
