Team Garmin elated as they take second place in Clipper Race 14
Team Garmin are thrilled to have finally taken a podium place in Race 14, Leg 8 of the Clipper Round the World Race, after closely missing out on the podium in previous races.
Jan Ridd’s team had a nail-biting finish that was down to the wire with Team Garmin and Old Pulteney battling it out for second place. In the end Garmin followed the homecomers; Derry~Londonderry~Doire, into second place pushing Old Pulteney to third.
The Team Garmin skipper was delighted with the crew’s performance and commented: “The crew again were amazing and dealt with the pressure, ensuring that we got the best speed we can from the wind.
“I feel this has been our best race to date, and the crew can be proud of their performance!”
The twelve Clipper Round the World race teams will set off on the next leg this Sunday (June 29), sailing north and around the top of the British Isles. The fleet will then head into the North Sea and set a south east course towards the finish at Den Helder on the northern coastline of the Netherlands.
During this next leg of the race the teams will be heavily influenced by the depressions that come across the Atlantic during the summer months, meaning it could be a testing race if conditions deteriorate, or equally it could be a test of the crews’ light wind sailing skills.
