Garmin, Billfish, & Maverick Yachts
We recently caught up with our friends from Maverick Yachts & Maverick Sport fishing, who have shared their keys to becoming the best possible fisherman and anglers. Check out what Will Drost, Principal of Maverick, had to say about Garmin, Billfish, and Maverick Yachts.
Maverick Yachts builds custom cold-molded boats to fish the oceans for billfish. Period. Our boats are built for discriminating owners and captains who enjoy a simple design with exceptional handling and fish-raising capabilities. We fish competitively in tournaments across Central America and also operate a fleet of Maverick charter boats out of Los Sueños Resort and Marina with each vessel fishing over 200 days a year
We are always looking for an advantage – consistently seeking ways to perfect and improve our fishing prowess. This season, after exhaustive research, we switched all of our vessels to Garmin Marine electronics. Now, after logging many hours at sea, we are confident our decision was sound. The Garmin open-array GMR 2526xHD2 radar and GSD 26 black-box sounder have already provided us a noticeable advantage compared to our previous systems. Quite simply, they make us better captains and anglers.
When chasing pelagic species in the central pacific region of Costa Rica, it is imperative that electronics assist in finding and spotting birds, schools of porpoise and bait. Thanks to our Garmin electronics, we can now easily and clearly find them from greater distances on our beautiful high-definition screens, and the GPS capabilities help us to mark objects or record precise positioning data for release information for the species we catch.
Finally, with their ease of use, simple “plug-and-play” installation, and with the tremendous factory support we enjoy, Garmin Marine keeps our focus on catching fish – providing both our serious tournament anglers as well as our fishing clients – many successful and enjoyable days at sea.
