Garmin® Announces G1000® Retrofit Program for Cessna CitationJet
ORLANDO, Fla.–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Garmin International Inc., a unit of Garmin Ltd. (Nasdaq: GRMN), the global leader in satellite navigation, announced today that it is in the midst of a Supplemental Type Certificate (STC) program that will allow installation of Garmin’s G1000 integrated flightdeck on the Cessna CitationJet (Model 525, serial numbers 0001-0359). Once completed, the STC will pave the way for CitationJet owners to visit a Cessna Owned Citation Service Centers for installation of the Garmin G1000 avionics suite.

The G1000 installation on the CitationJet has a large 12-inch multi-function display (MFD) and two 10.4-inch primary flight displays (PFD). It also includes Garmin’s GFC 700 three-axis, fully digital, dual channel, fail passive automatic flight control system (AFCS). The GFC 700 includes features you would expect in this class of aircraft such as coupled wide area augmentation system (WAAS) approaches, vertical navigation, and flight level change (FLC).
Also available to CitationJet operators is Garmin’s synthetic vision technology (SVT™) that presents a 3D depiction of terrain, obstacles, traffic and the runway environment on the G1000’s PFD so that the image replicates what pilots would see outside the cockpit on a clear day. SVT also includes pathways (or Highway-In-The-Sky) that are depicted as 3D “flying rectangles” and help pilots stay on course when flying en route legs, VNAV legs, GPS/WAAS vertical approach procedures, ILS approach procedures, and arrival and departure procedures.
Standard features of the G1000 avionics suite includes FMS with dual WAAS LPV, Class-B terrain awareness and warning system (TAWS), dual integrated solid-state attitude and heading reference systems (AHRS), and dual integrated digital air data computers. In addition, Garmin’s GDL 69A™ is standard equipment that brings integrated satellite weather datalink and digital-quality audio via XM WX Satellite Weather™ (service available to U.S. and Canadian customers with a XM subscription).
Garmin’s SafeTaxi and FliteCharts™ are also available as standard and will ease pilot workload. Garmin SafeTaxi includes over 950 U.S. airports and helps pilots navigate unfamiliar airports while taxiing by identifying runways, taxiways, runway incursion hotspots, and hangars, as well as the aircraft’s exact location on the field. FliteCharts is an electronic version of the Departure Procedures, Standard Terminal Arrival Routes, approach charts and airport diagrams, and may be viewed directly on the MFD. ChartView is available as an option and it allows pilots to overlay the aircraft’s position on an electronic version of Jeppesen’s charts and airport diagrams.
Thanks to the G1000’s lightweight and modular design, the G1000 installation results in a weight savings of approximately 100 pounds.
Cessna’s CitationJet is an entry level business jet that was first announced at the National Business Aviation Association (NBAA) Convention in 1989. Its first flight was completed in 1991, and first delivery was in 1993.
Garmin anticipates receiving the STC for the Cessna CitationJet in early second quarter of 2010. All installations will be performed by Cessna-owned Citation Service Centers, and CitationJet owners and operators should contact a Cessna Citation Service Center for pricing and scheduling an installation.
