Athletes can now pause Training Status on Garmin devices

OLATHE, Kan./August 27, 2020 – Garmin® International, Inc. today announced that athletes can now pause their training status on compatible Forerunner®, fēnix® and MARQ® smartwatches, as well as Edge® GPS cycling computers.¹ Training Status is a performance monitoring tool that evaluates an athlete’s recent exercise history and lets them know if they’re training productively, peaking or overreaching.

“Training status is a great way to see how our training is progressing, but our fitness goals change often,” said Dan Bartel, Garmin vice president of worldwide sales. “Whether coming off a hard training cycle or recovering from an injury or illness, it can be deflating when you have a setback, so now, we have created a way to turn the feature off and on as needed so you can run or ride more casually, or simply take a break.”

When an athlete pauses their training status, their smartwatch or Edge cycling computer will continue to analyze daily training data and provide VO2 max and training load, but feedback related to training status, training load focus², optimal training load ranges and daily suggested workouts³ will be turned off.

While Training Status is paused, athletes can continue to use their smartwatch or Edge cycling computer. When they are ready to monitor their training progress again, the training status feature will start calculating immediately based on all recent activity recorded by their device.
