Garmin(R) Introduces the GWS(TM) 10: The Art of Windage Made Simple
OLATHE, Kan.–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Garmin International Inc., a unit of Garmin Ltd. (NASDAQ: GRMN), the global leader in satellite navigation, today announced the GWS 10 wind sensor, a NMEA 2000 compliant marine instrument that provides essential wind speed and direction data. This precision instrument was introduced in advance of the 2008 boat show season.
“The information provided by the GWS 10 puts sailors in total control on the water,” said Dan Bartel, Garmin’s vice president of worldwide sales. “From wind speed and direction to air temperature and pressure data, the GWS 10 delivers reliable atmospheric information when you need it most, and as it relates to your exact location.”
Featuring an elegant design, the GWS 10 wind sensor uses a wind vane for detecting wind direction and an anemometer for measuring wind speeds from 0-99 knots. Unlike traditional wind sensors, the GWS 10 serves as a mini weather station, providing barometric pressure and air temperature data in addition to apparent wind and pressure trend data. When combined with other sensors, the GWS 10 provides those on board the ability to gather specific wind data such as ground and true winds, wind VMG and tack heading.
The GWS 10 “smart transducer” installs with ease and provides data output to the cockpit display via the NMEA 2000 cable and bus. Designed to interface with Garmin’s GMI™ 10 universal marine instrument display, the GWS 10 is compatible with the GPSMAP® 4000 and 5000 series, or any NMEA 2000-enabled chartplotters and displays. With the GWS 10, boaters will enjoy exceptionally smooth digital needle movement with the 10Hz wind data output as it’s displayed on the GM1 10.
The GWS 10 wind sensor has a suggested retail price of $599.99, and will be offered separately or in a bundle with the GMI 10 instrument for $999.99. Visit www.garmin.com for more information.
