Introducing the Edge® Explore 1000 – a GPS Bike Computer for Touring and Adventure from Garmin®
Garmin International Inc., a unit of Garmin Ltd. (NASDAQ: GRMN), today
announced the Edge Explore 1000, an easy-to-use GPS bike computer with
cycling-specific maps and points of interest. Ideal for touring and
adventure, the Edge Explore 1000 features preloaded Garmin Cycle Map
with routable road and bike paths, elevation data, points of interest
and address search. Users can discover new routes with its ability to
create courses on device by inputting a distance and starting direction
and choosing from up to three cycling-friendly courses. Helping create a
safer riding environment, Edge Explore 1000 is the first Garmin device
to offer incident detection1 capabilities and is compatible
with the Varia™ line of smart cycling devices.
“Answer the call for adventure with the advanced mapping and navigation
features of our latest GPS cycling computer, the Edge Explore 1000,”
said Dan Bartel, Garmin vice president of worldwide sales. “Featuring
cycling-specific maps and points of interest, the Edge Explore 1000 also
offers innovative features that help create a safer riding environment
for cyclists while they explore new routes.”
With the Edge Explore 1000 cyclists can explore new rides provided by
the device or easily map their own routes. Using the round-trip course
feature users can simply enter how far they want to ride and a starting
direction, and the Edge Explore 1000 will calculate up to three course
options. Cyclists can also create new courses themselves directly on the
Edge Explore 1000 using the preloaded map and points of interest. Or,
they can plan and download courses using Garmin Connect™ or third-party
apps.
The first Garmin device to offer incident detection capabilities via an
integrated accelerometer, the Edge Explore 1000 can manually or
automatically send a cyclist’s location to emergency contacts in the
event of an accident. It is also compatible with the innovative Varia
line of smart cycling devices, including a first-of-its-kind rearview
bike radar and smart bike lights. These features help create a safer
cycling environment, allowing cyclists to stay focused and enjoy their
ride with peace of mind. Additional ANT+® sensor compatibility include
power meters, heart rate monitors, speed and cadence sensors and VIRB®.
Ideal for all riding conditions – rain2 or shine – the Edge
Explore 1000 features a large, high-resolution 3” capacitive touch
display that adjusts automatically for low-light riding conditions,
offers up to 15 hours of battery life, and is compatible with GPS and
GLONASS satellites for fast connection. When paired with a compatible
Bluetooth® device and the Garmin Connect Mobile app, the Edge Explore
1000 offers live tracking, incoming call and text alerts, social media
sharing, weather, wireless uploads and sending/receiving courses.
The Edge Explore 1000 is expected to begin shipping in Q3 and has a
suggested retail price of $449.99.
