The adventures of Anna and Elsa and the epic saga of a galaxy far, far away come to life in Garmin’s popular kid’s fitness tracker and interactive companion mobile app
OLATHE, Kan. /October 4, 2019 — Garmin International, Inc., a unit of Garmin Ltd. (NASDAQ: GRMN), today announced the vívofit jr. 2 kid’s fitness tracker1 with Disney’s Frozen 2 and Lucasfilm’s Star WarsTM themed bands and enhanced companion mobile app adventures. In addition to tracking steps, sleep, and daily recommended activity minutes, the vívofit jr. 2 provides kids with an interactive, character-influenced experience where activity unlocks adventure, shaping habits for lifelong health and fitness. These latest additions also introduce new fitness training cards that walk kids through basic exercise moves with the help of their favorite characters. Featuring durable character-etched band designs and a customizable color screen, the vívofit jr. 2 is swim-friendly2 and boasts a battery life of over a year.
“The popularity of the Frozen and Star Wars franchises with kids cannot be overstated,” said Dan Bartel, Garmin vice president of global consumer sales. “Kids identify with these characters and feel empowered to show off their favorite heroes on their wrist. The storylines as told in the companion app let kids feel like they are adventuring alongside these characters, incentivizing children to meet and exceed activity goals. We’re excited to add these latest characters to our lineup of existing Disney, Marvel and Star Wars bands and companion app experiences.”
Disney’s Frozen 2 bands and app adventure
With two character-etched band options, a bold purple for Anna and a light blue for Elsa, kids can represent their favorite heroine right on their wrist.
Every day, kids have more to explore when they reach their daily 60-minute activity goals with the corresponding mobile app, Into the Unknown – A Frozen 2 Adventure. Prior to the November 22nd motion picture release date, the app story will take kids up to where Frozen left off. Once the sequel is released, the app story will match the Frozen 2 narrative. With an adult as their helper, children will go ice skating with Anna and Elsa, escape an avalanche with Olaf, and travel to an enchanted forest to locate the source of a mysterious voice. The more they meet their activity goals, the more of the story they’ll get to see.
With Olaf’s encouragement, new fitness training cards teach kids basic exercise moves, like jumping jacks, downward dog, mountain climbers and more. The fun continues with an interactive Tap Challenge that lets kids collect crystals that unlock more adventures. When kids meet daily activity minutes, they’re rewarded with more time in the mobile challenge. See the Frozen 2 vívofit jr. in action here.
Star Wars bands and app adventure
Two different etched band designs let kids choose between embracing the virtues of the light side or exploring the mysteries of the dark side.
Relive the most exciting scenes of the Star Wars saga with the corresponding companion mobile app, Skywalker Saga – A Star Wars Adventure. With an adult as their helper, kids will experience the thrills and unforgettable moments of the epic Skywalker story. Enhanced graphics take kids right into the action where they’ll escape Darth Vader™ with R2-D2 and C-3PO, help Han Solo and Chewie fight the Empire, and even take on the First Order™ with Rey and BB-8™. The more they meet their activity goals, the more they’ll get to see.
With Yoda as their coach, new Fitness Training cards teach kids basic exercise moves, like jumping jacks, downward dog, mountain climbers and more. The fun continues with an interactive Tap Challenge that lets kids collect gems across the galaxy. When kids meet daily activity minutes, they’re rewarded with more time in the mobile challenge. A parental personal assistant
The vívofit jr. 2 band is a valuable tool for parents as well and comes with a companion app3 that acts as a parental personal assistant, controlled from a compatible smartphone. From there, parents can:
- View their child’s activity, sleep, chore data and more.
- Assign chores and schedule alerts which show up as icons on the child’s band, letting them know what they need to be doing. These can be set up to recur weekly or daily to help kids learn about schedules and responsibility.
- Designate a reward virtual coin value for various chores that can be redeemed by children for agreed-upon rewards.
Friendly competition
Kids can use the vívofit jr. 2 band to engage in some friendly competition with their friends and family. Toe-to-ToeTM step challenges let kids sync with nearby friends (or themselves) for timed step competitions. Parents can also play by downloading the Toe-to-Toe Connect IQTM app to a compatible device. New family challenges let users connect with other families and compete in weekly step challenges. Families can also create custom challenges, and even leave comments for each other for extra motivation to move. The parent app allows for multiple profiles, so parents and siblings with compatible Garmin devices can have their steps listed on the step leaderboard, promoting a healthy and fit lifestyle for the whole family.
