Garmin Announces Vector 2 and Vector 2S-a dual- and single-sensing power meter featuring entirely redesigned pedal pods
We’re excited to today announce Vector 2 and Vector 2S, the next generation of the company’s innovative pedal-based power meters. Like their predecessors, Vector 2 and Vector 2S measure power directly at the pedal, where force is applied, for reliable and accurate results. With an entirely redesigned pedal pod, cyclists can install and transfer their power meter from bike-to-bike without a hitch, and keep it running smoothly with newly added LED lights on the pedal pods that display important setup and maintenance information. In addition to easy installation, upgrading a system is also simpler than ever. The single-sensing Vector 2S is fully upgradable to a dual-sensing Vector 2 which allows users to view left/right balance and cycling dynamics1, and existing Vector owners can seamlessly upgrade to Vector 2 and Vector 2S with an installation kit. 2
“The introduction of Vector and Vector S changed the way power was measured, and made power metrics accessible to cyclists of all levels,” said Dan Bartel, Garmin vice president of worldwide sales. “Vector 2 and Vector 2S add valuable new features and improve key components to take this to the next level. By redesigning the pedal pod and eliminating the need for washers to address recessed crank faces, adding LED light displays and offering the most advanced metrics for training, it’s easier than ever for cyclists to install, maintain, upgrade and track power for a better ride.”
Vector 2’s dual-sensing pedal-based power meter measures cadence, total power, left/right balance and displays cycling dynamics, revolutionary metrics that provide feedback to cyclists on their position and pedal form. With cycling dynamics users can tailor their training around specific weaknesses and strengths by viewing exactly where they are generating power throughout the pedal stroke. Cyclists can also view where force is being applied on the pedal itself to ensure proper cleat position, as well as when and how long they were seated versus standing during a ride to gauge position effectiveness.
The affordable, single-sensing Vector 2S system reports cadence and measures forces on the left pedal to approximate total power. By measuring the deflection in the pedal spindle as users pedal and comparing that measured deflection to a factory calibration, Vector 2S can determine how much force is being applied to the pedal. An optional right-side upgrade pedal allows users to take the next step in monitoring power output whenever they choose.
During a ride, both systems measure and send data to compatible Edge® cycling computers, Forerunner® multisport watches or other ANT+® enabled devices for viewing.2 Post-ride analysis, data sharing, mapping, route planning and more can also be integrated into training through Garmin Connect™. Viewing power metrics, and graphically displayed cycling dynamics in Garmin Connect can help cyclists evaluate all aspects of a ride to train more efficiently.
Vector 2 and Vector 2S will be available Q2 in Standard (cranks 12-15 mm thick, up to 44 mm wide) and Large (cranks 15-18 mm thick, up to 44 mm wide) for a suggested retail price of $1,499.99 and $899.99, respectively. The optional Vector 2S right-side upgrade pedal will be available for $699.99, the Vector to Vector 2 upgrade kit will be available for $149.99, and the Vector S to Vector 2S upgrade kit will be available for $99.99.
1 Metrics and cycling dynamics may be limited by head unit. Visit your compatible Garmin device owner’s manual for a full list of available data fields at Garmin.com.
